Glendhu Station is a family owned high country station on the shores near Lake Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand.

The History

Nestled on the shores of Lake Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand, Glendhu Station boasts a rich tapestry of history intertwined with the natural beauty of its surroundings. Initially surveyed as Run 334, or "Roy's Run," by John Roy of Wellington, this land has seen a transformation from its early days under the ownership of Wilkin and Thompson of Wanaka Station, through its division into five distinct blocks, to its eventual acquisition by the Scaife family. The Scaife family, after separating West Wanaka and Glendhu Station, nurtured the land across three generations, leading to its purchase by Ian and Maise McRae. Under the McRae's stewardship, Glendhu Station has embraced a blend of traditional farming and eco-tourism, marking a new chapter in its storied legacy while maintaining a deep respect for the environment.

John & Emily McRae

John and Emily McRae, the current custodians of Glendhu Station, continue this legacy with a passion for creating bespoke, rustic fairytales for those who visit. Whether it's through hosting weddings in the historic woolshed, offering a range of activities across the 1,200 hectares property, or simply sharing the majestic lake and mountain views, their approach is deeply rooted in organic and biological methods. This commitment ensures that Glendhu Station not only offers unforgettable experiences but also does justice to the breathtaking landscapes that define it. The McRaes' dedication to sustainability and their love for the land are evident in every aspect of Glendhu Station, from the clever landscaping and renovated shed features to the flexible styling options for events, making it a premier destination for those seeking to connect with nature and each other.

Our Sustainability Pursuit

At the heart of Glendhu Station's ethos is a commitment to sustainability, a principle that guides its operations and interactions with the land. Farming livestock through organic and biological methods, the McRaes honor the surrounding environment, ensuring that Glendhu Station remains a testament to the beauty and resilience of New Zealand's high country. Their approach to hosting events, particularly weddings, is infused with this philosophy, offering couples and their guests not just a venue, but an experience that celebrates love, connection, and the natural world.
